Ecton Mine
River Manifold Valley, Staffordshire

A laser scan survey of Ecton Mine for UNEXMIN Horizon 2020 project.

The Brief

UNEXMIN required a full laser scan survey of the entire accessible mine system at Ecton Mine in the River Manifold Valley, Staffordshire.

UNEXMIN and the Ecton Mine Trust required Geoterra to carry out laser scan surveys in order to produce a complete 3D point cloud model of the mine. The laser scan survey was then to be used as a base from which to map the flooded mine workings below deep level using the UX1 robotic survey system, currently being developed as an EU funded Horizon 2020 project.

The Solution

Geoterra carried out a surface laser scan survey using a GeoSLAM ZEB REVO laser scanner. The same scanner was then used to laser scan survey the underground mine system. All surveys were related to Ordnance Survey National Grid.

The Deliverables

Working with GeoSLAM and Geo Reka, we provided our clients with a range of deliverables including 3D point clouds in LAS & DXF formats, together with video flythroughs of the mine.
